We have been happily married for over eleven years and been together for over twenty years. We always dreamed of having children and after many years of trying and experiencing several loses, we were drawn to the gift of adoption as a beautiful way to start our family. In 2015, we were very blessed to be chosen to parent a beautiful baby girl, Olive. She is our sunshine and the light of our lives. We feel so lucky to be her Mom and Dad. Not a day goes by that we don’t think about how fortunate we are to have been selected by Olive’s Birthmother. We have a very open, honest and special relationship with her Birthmother. We share photos, videos and updates and have gotten to see each other several times too. Our experience with open adoption has been so wonderful and we truly feel this is how we are supposed to expand our little family. We are so excited and hopeful to bring a little one home.
As a family, we enjoy going on adventures together exploring the great outdoors. We have been able to take Olive to several National Parks in California, Utah and Hawaii. We like to be active outdoors whether it is going to the beach, Safari Park and Zoo, aquarium, hiking in the mountains or just having picnics and barbeques in our own backyard with family and friends. During the summer months, we are at the beach most weekends and look forward to sharing beach days with our children playing in the sand, making sand castles, and teaching them how swim and surf.
Olive is a very active and lovely little lady. She likes to ride bikes, swim and play with her friends. She enjoys reading, coloring, painting and cooking with Mommy in the kitchen. Olive is very excited to be a Big Sister. She has helped us set up and decorate the baby’s room. And she is always talking about the fun things she will get to do once she is a Big Sister; sharing toys and helping change diapers and playing with her little brother or sister. Dylan is an avid mountain bike rider and surfer. He is a fun-loving guy and it is very rare to see him without a smile on his face. People are always drawn to him, and everyone that meets him loves him. Dylan has the best job in the world as a stay at home Dad. He loves being home and being able to spend time with Olive. Melissa is a scientist at a local biotech company in La Jolla where she works to find new treatments to help in the fight against cancer. She has a calming demeanor and is a natural mother; Olive is her whole world. Late nights, early mornings it doesn’t matter how tired, she is always just so happy to be with Olive.
We are committed to raising our children in a loving, stable and nurturing home. We will provide structure and framework so that our kids will be able to realize their fullest potential. We will teach our children to value education, hard work, and to treat others with love and kindness.
Family comes in so many different shapes, sizes and colors, but the thing that holds a family together is love. Please know, more than anything else, that your baby will be fully and unconditionally loved. Our child will always know their adoption story and will always be told about the wonderful gift given to us by you.
We welcome you into our lives to the degree you are comfortable with and we hope this letter conveyed a little of who we are and how excited we are to become parents for the second time.
Best wishes and prayers,
Dylan, Melissa and Olive
